THE FUTURE IS GREEN. ARE YOU PART OF THE REVOLUTION?
THE FUTURE IS GREEN. ARE YOU PART OF THE REVOLUTION?
Clean. Renewable. Efficient. Green. And growth. These are tendencies of the future, in nearly every area of human development – whether we talk about energy production, food, transport or buildings. It’s highly justifiable and necessary, as signs of global warming are more and more obvious.
Scientific estimates constantly state the temperatures are rising due to the ways that human society has used to evolve and prosper. But as knowledge, technology, science in its whole has flowered, the ways of living must also change – for the better.
BUILDINGS WILL BE GREENER AND CLEANER.
As steel, concrete and glass were the very definition of modern cities – with its proud skyscrapers towering every breath and every soul – people used to say that that was how to future will look like. A landscape covered in shady gray, translucent and mirroring their every move.
Nowadays, matching the continuous race for clean and renewable energy, architecture keeps the pace. Today’s architects developed means to build – low buildings and skyscrapers alike – with recyclable and eco-friendly materials.
Already, architectural tendencies show that green goes along well with glass. Designers from all over the world are pioneering in the quest to develop concepts for real Green Buildings – aside the energy efficiency and reduced waste. Meant more literally than we think, there are already some fine examples across the globe, beautified with actual trees, green rooftops or lush interior gardens – see the 1980’s buildings in Austria created by F. Hundertwasser.
As research proved that green environments have a substantial psychological impact on people living in urban areas. More over studies have shown that even a small park can reduce local surface temperatures by up to 7 degrees Celsius.
As Winston Churchill said, “we shape our buildings, thereafter they shape us.”
EATING FATS WAS FUN. NOW EATING GREEN IS MORE FUN.
Eating heavy, oily and fat-rich meals was also highly necessary throughout human history – as people needed to be able to get the right amount of protein, to keep themselves well fed and strong. Up in the north territories, such a diet would help with the fight against frost and diseases.
But for the last century, eating habits have been changing dramatically, with food produced in eco-farms, nourished and cared for like never before. Vegan and vegetarian diets have become more and more popular in the last century, as there is no need for the fats to protect and hold up body temperature.
So, we discover that everything is intertwined, because better housing, insulated, illuminated and warmed up or cooled down through modern technologies, also influences overall health and comfort.
Investment in health care facilities and development is higher today, than a decade ago. Syndromes and diseases that were considered uncurable, are successfully treated. Excellence in medical care, knowledge and technology became a goal itself. Life expectancy has grown, and while further development is undergoing, seems like it still will.
NO MORE BURNING FUELS, BUT STILL WARM AND COZY.
Factories and fiery furnaces, guarding the edges of cities and covering green fields, used to be signs of progress, of human might and determination, of revolution. Those were the means to produce energy, heat and to rest comfortable.
The increased interest in solar photovoltaics and wind power, shows that conventional energy plants are losing ground. And today’s prices for affording renewable energy are competitive to the old technologies – coal, oil, nuclear.
Large fields are already stuffed with solar panels and wind farms, while many European countries have largely invested into having electric cars. Quite affordable, they are still powerful, don’t release harmful gases into Earth’s atmosphere and are also tax efficient.
So, that’s another green change.
We know that human history is filled with revolutions. And breakthroughs. But as society, science and technology have evolved, so has responsibility. The Industrial Revolution was necessary, but it has long come to an end. And that’s another breakthrough.
In our times, new revolutions are being led. And all of them are green and clean.
